Seattle Burner Resources

Seattle has an extremely active, vibrant Burner commun ity

just waiting for you to get involved!

I’ve collected a list of links to help you get started.  In particular if you’re new to the area or to the community, I hope that these resources will help you get plugged in:

Email lists:
A lot of discussion goes on online, and it’s a great way to find your community.   From city-wide & beyond to individual neighborhoods, from dozens of messages per day to a handful of high-value

messages per week, you can find mail lists that will get you in touch with other Seattle-area burners.

Organizations:
Did you know Seattle has its own burning man organization?  Ignition Northwest, or INW, supports burner art and burner events, and is the driving force behind amazing festivals like Critical Massive and SeaCompression.  INW is also sponsoring Seattle-are public art grants, funding workshops & events and sponsoring apprenticeships at Pratt.  Check out INW’s website and learn how you can get involved!

Biannual Ignition Northwest Town Hall meeting:
Come meet the board, come find out where we’ve been/where we’re going.  There’s usually a potluck, too.  :)

Events:
Now there’s never an excuse to sit at home bored.  There’s events all year ’round.

Weekly:
Monday evening:
Burn night

Tuesday evening:
Burning potluck
This is my weekly community excursion.  Eva Luna has generously opened her house nearly every Tuesday of the year for the last few years, and this event has quickly become a center of the active community.  It’s a great event; check it out!

Annual/Biannual:
July:
Newbie Picnic
Not just for newbies!  It’s a great place for new folk to meet up with veterens, to find out hot to survive and thrive, and maybe hook up with a camp.  This is generally held in July near Green Lake, but it doesn’t look like it’ s been

scheduled yet.

Critical Massive
Critical Massive is like a mini burn, just for us that’s held about an hour and a half north of Seattle.  It’s a fantastic event, and it’s getting better every year.

November:
SeaCompression
When we come back from the playa, all we want to do is party.  This is the place for it.

Burner-operated businesses:
Let’s keep the economy in the family.  Lot’s of burners have their own business, and it pays to support them.  There’s massage therepists, photographers and even some guy selling EL wire.

EL wire workshop at Not A Number Cards and Gifts

We had a great time at the workshop last weekend at Not A Number Cards And Gifts in Wallingford. Photos by Hank, AKA EspressoBuzz:

Hank’s complete gallery of the workshop is here.

I really enjoy giving these workshops.

It’ s incredibly

satisfying to nudge people over the learning curve.

I remember the first time

I tried wiring up so EL and was baffled by the process, but once someone showed me the basic techniques I

was amazed how easy it really is once you know the simple tricks.

I hold these workshops every few weeks, be sure to check out the upcoming schedule!

Thanks to everyone who showed up!

In Vancouver for the weekend…

Hey folks.  I’m in Vancouver for the weekend.  Ivana and I are registered to run the Vancouver half marathon tomorrow morning.  Looks like I won’t be running, as I seem to have picked up the (not swine-) flu over the past week.  So I’ll suffer in the hotel while she does the run.  Ahh well, there will be other opportunities.

Anyway, this may add a bit of delay to the shipping
