Electroluminescent Ribbons

Electroluminescent Ribbons With EL ribbons, you can create a whole new set of effects not possible with EL wire. These flexible, flat panels give a bright, even glow across their whole surface. Like EL wire, EL ribbons need to be soldered to a driver in order to glow. Because ribbons consume a large amount of power to be lit, we’ve recommended some drivers suited for this use in each product description.

28″ Flat Lamp

Using the same technology and drivers as Cool Neon, the FLAT Lamp produces a bright band of glowing light, one quarter-inch wide, mounted on a flexible ribbon .01-inch thick by 0.25-inch wide. FLAT Lamps come in two lengths with solder tabs at one end. They can be cut shorter but unlike EL wire, remnants cannot be re-soldered. The soldering is a little tricky. We recommend the AA Hand held driver for the FLAT lamp.

NOTE: Use a heat sink while soldering the tabs to prevent them from melting the plastic substrate.

Electroluminescent 1 Meter Ribbon

Illuminated Area 13/16 X 39 1/2 in
Total Size 1-1/4 X 41 in

Each ribbon comes with 1 wire side connector soldered to one end and a raw lead on the other.

We estimate each ribbon is equal to 40ft of wire, so we suggest a Fish Driver, Long Sound Driver, Big Boy, Driver Max, Dac160 or Dac330.

Cutting Custom Contour:

With the connector pointing towards you with the illuminated size down you may cut the right side of the ribbon. You can cut very close to the electrode on the left but if you cut past i the ribbon will not light past this point.

When soldering ribbon: there is a 4 pin connector, with a wire side connector cut the connector so both wires are equal length. Solder one wire to the 2 pins on the left side and the other wire to the right 2 pins.

Each ribbon is nearly 40 inches long, we estimate it to be roughly equivalent to 40 ft or wire, so about 1ft or ribbon equals a foot of wire.

1 Ribbon takes 350ma at 12vdc. 2 ribbons take 480ma at 12vdc.
